Traditionally, geometry has been one of the most complicated math concepts for blind students to master due to the difficulties that arise with understanding the role of angles. Unable to see drawn figures, blind students have trouble determining how to measure the angles of shapes. The device featured assists blind students with overcoming this challenge. This device aims to help students understand how changing the lengths of sides of shapes can affect the angles that the shape forms. The components included in the device are a board, pegs, rubber bands, and blocks of various angles. To use the device, students place the pegs in various slots and use the rubber bands to form shapes. To determine the angles of the shapes, the students place the angle blocks on the board and determine which blocks align with the ends of the rubber bands. The assembled example portrays a triangle that is formed by the rubber bands (note: the rubber band stl files are meant to show how shapes would be formed. During actual use, real rubber bands should be used). The example portrays how a block can be placed on the board to determine one of the angles formed. To help the students determine the angles of the various blocks, the degree number is written in braille. It is convenient that this design is available for the option of being 3D printed. Having this design on hand allows for users to create new blocks of various angles to experiment with. This state-of-the-art design keeps consumers in mind. Caution was taken when creating the design to ensure that all components are smooth to refrain from users injuring themselves with sharp objects. This device is perfect for blind students eager to expand their knowledge! The 3D printing method for this design would be Fused Deposition Modeling and the material would be polylactic acid. I go to Bergen County Academies and am submitting this design under the advisory of Mr. Joseph DeFalco.
