Tino di Camaino was a skilled Italian sculptor born in Siena around 1280, the son of architect Camaino di Crescentino. As Giovanni Pisano's pupil, he worked on the façade of Siena Cathedral, helping his master to complete it. In 1311, Tino followed Giovanni to Pisa and took charge of the cathedral's work. Four years later, he created a grand funerary monument for Emperor Henry VII, displaying exceptional craftsmanship that would become a hallmark of his career. He then worked in Siena and Florence, crafting famous tombs like Bishop Orso's at Santa Maria del Fiore and Gastone della Torre's in the museum of Santa Croce. From 1323 to his death around 1337, Tino worked in Naples under King Robert of Anjou, producing several stunning funerary monuments. Notably, he created tombs for Catherine of Austria in San Lorenzo Maggiore and Queen Mary of Hungary in Santa Maria Donnaregina, showcasing his mastery of sculpting life-like figures. His works can also be found in the church of Badia Cava dei Tirreni.
