Human: Created in response to the Fitz 3D challenge, this piece was showcased at The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge from May 15th-20th, 2018. Angel Enhanced delves into the concept of how an edited 3D scan can conserve or most effectively present a relic. Three-dimensional technologies are not the ultimate solution to preservation but can enhance original artefacts and the underlying concepts behind them. I focused on the lost polychromy information once evident in the Kneeling Angel's shield, which has faded over time due to decay. The vivid colours of sculptures gradually turn pale, prompting me to change the figure's colour to white, creating a sparse blank canvas. A public domain image is projected onto the surface of the model, depicting the Virgin Mary and the Angel Gabriel in the scene titled "The Annunciation" by artist Simon Bening. This artwork has been made available open source by the J. Paul Getty Museum. The image brings the detail and colour of what might have existed to life, contrasted with the white canvas of what remains today. It adds context in terms of narrative and demonstrates how new technologies can uncover past histories. The model was edited using Paint 3D, resulting in a working prototype displayed in digital format. Sources: Fitzwilliam Museum: Kneeling Angel "The Annunciation" by Simon Bening.
