Artifact Details A bronze bust of Silenus boasts silver eyes, crafted between 27 BC and AD 395, measuring 20 x 10 cm in length and width. As a minor Greco-Roman rustic god, Silenus presided over drunkenness and winemaking, often accompanied by Dionysus. Both were frequently depicted as older, overweight men with balding heads, reflecting their love of heavy drinking. Silenus's features also included those of a horse, such as equine ears, tail, and legs.
