The retainer clips over the right-hand X-axis carriage and registers snugly inside it, firmly holding onto the X-axis guide rods in place. This ensures they cannot be pushed out by any external force, allowing you to tighten the X-axis belt to your desired level without compromising the alignment of the Z-axis guide rods or screws. This setup also eliminates the need for a longer X-axis belt, as most tensioners that rely on pushing against the X-axis rods would typically require.
