I'm fed up with these flimsy rods on these Monday-to-Friday flights. Or something like that. But seriously though. The endcaps for the Y-axis rods that were delivered with the A8 are a complete disaster. I get them to break off all the time, so now it's time to rethink this whole thing. And this is what has come out of said thought process. [Insert Victory Fanfare] My printer is now easily the most stable it has been in the two months I've owned it. No more Y-axis ghosting, no more wobble, nothing. It should also provide a decent amount of support for the original acrylic backframe of the A8. This design was 'designed' with this Y-frame replacement in mind, since it was already installed in my printer: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2058789 So no worries about threaded rods that are too short or anything. Instructions, just in case it's not already clear by the pictures: - Print this (Duh) - But at 101% scale (sliced in Cura 3.0), because I messed up. - Unscrew the two nuts from the threaded rod at the back of the printer ** Also: Unscrew everything else between the two nuts. - Heat those nuts up with a jet torch lighter, try to fit them into the hexagonal shapes on the bracket. They are meant to hold in place, so no worries about the nuts melting your precious PLA-workpiece (i.e. it HAS TO happen). - Put the backframe bracket where the nuts were. It should fit right in place. - Screw the threaded rods from the front into the nuts. - Replace the M3X18 screws with M3X30 screws and screw everything together. Boom, no more breaking little things that'll cost you your nerves. * Please note: I have been building upon the acryl frame thing by SmallArtFly and it wouldn't quite fit in the end. If you're unsure whether it'll fit try the "honeycombed" Version, it makes it much easier to screw together, in case a hole or two are blocked. Also: A lighter and a small screwdriver, which you can push going from the acrylic side through the bracket should make your life much easier. * Please note 2: Since Fusion 360 wouldn't let me access the timeline tool when creating this, I couldn't really change anything. So this thing stands "as is". It's complete. No updates, no fixes, nothing. P.S.: Please excuse my super-duper-shitty camera. Kthxbai.
