The Simplest Way to Add Auto Power Off to Your Printer You can easily equip your printer with an auto power off capability without printing anything, as long as you have a 3D file ready to be published. That's why I included the mutyur.stl in this project. To Get Started: - You will need a two-pole switch (you may already have one) - A Relay with 5 VDC coil and 2 pole 5A 250 VAC Normally Open contacts, such as the Omron G6B-2214P type I used - A diode to protect your board from the relay's voltage surge - About 50 cm of twin cable - Cable lugs (optional, you can use the ones already on your X limit switch) Preparation: - First, measure which wire is 0V on your limit switch using a multimeter. You can do this by comparing it to the power connector's - point and the limit switch cables while the printer is powered on and the X limit switch is open. - Solder the cables and diode (with correct polarity) to the relay - Isolate the relay legs with insulating tape or shrinkable tube to prevent short circuits - Connect the power supply cables to the limit switch: 0V wire to NC point and 5VDC wire to J3 connector's Vcc pin - Connect the cables and switch as shown End G-code: M104 S0 ; turn off extruder heater M140 S0 ; turn off heated bed heater (if you have it) G91 ; relative positioning G1 E-1 F300 ; retract filament a bit before lifting nozzle, to release some pressure G1 Z+10 E-5 X-20 Y-20 F9000 ; move Z up and retract filament more G90 ; absolute positioning G1 X-30 F5000 ; X close to endstop (check on your printer) G1 Y200 F2000 ; prepare for part removal G1 X-33 F1000 ; X to endstop -> shutdown (check on your printer) M107 ; turn off fan M84 ; steppers off Note: The G1 X-30 and G1 X-33 lines are specific to my printer. You need to check your printer's X axis in 1mm steps, find where the limit switch switches, replace -33 with that value, and add +3 to 5mm to -30 where the printhead just touches the limit switch.
