Andy's Face
thingiverse
The original 3D face scan was performed using a 3D scanner, details of which can be found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1491 and http://abarry.org/stereo. After printing the first version, an improved print resolution was achieved by printing the face upside down. To recreate this process in Blender 3D, import the PLY file of the pointcloud and export it as an OBJ for further cleaning. Next, open the cleaned pointcloud in Meshlab to compute normals and generate a surface using Poisson Reconstruction with an Octree Depth of 11. Afterwards, save the meshed face as an STL and import it back into Blender. Add a block to the rear of the model before exporting it again as an STL for Skeinforge processing and printing.
