Here's a video of it in action, featuring an extruded LED Android Robot I printed on my dual extruder. I took a JPEG of the Robot and traced it in Solidworks to create a 3D model. Then, I extruded and filleted the robot, saving it as its own STL file for use in dual extrusion. Next, I designed a plate around the robot, adding holes for screws and saving that as its own STL file. Lastly, I designed a shell to encase the plate and robot, with aligned screw holes so it can be securely fastened. The shell was printed using regular black PLA on my Rep 2, while the plate and robot were printed using dual extrusion in the same material. I chose BendLay for its exceptional translucency (91% of light passes through), which allows for a mesmerizing effect. To complete the project, I hooked up an RGB LED strip around the inner shell and connected it to an IR receiver, enabling remote control with a sleek design. You can also check out my other designs, including logos and designs for LED hookups like Batman, Superman, IronMan, SpiderMan, Punisher, Storm Trooper, Transformers Autobot, Decepticon, MakerFaire Robot, Android Robot, Apple Logo, Mortal Kombat, and Jeep Logo, which are all available on youmagine.com.
