Ancoats stands out as a bustling inner city area in Manchester, situated in North West England directly next to the renowned Northern Quarter and northern part of Manchester's central business district. Historically, Ancoats played a pivotal role as one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution, often credited as the world's first industrial suburb. From the late 18th century onward, this once-thriving area was a thriving industrial district for many years. The area experienced an accelerated decline in economic prosperity starting from the 1930s, coupled with a drastic reduction in population after World War II. This deplorable trend particularly accelerated during the devastating slum clearances of the 1960s. Since the turn of the 20th century, Ancoats' industrial heritage has received the recognition it deserved and due to its prime location near the city centre, substantial regeneration plans have been implemented. Today this previously blighted open space is encircled by refurbished and modernized structures.
