Ancient Roman cage cup
thingiverse
The cage cup (vas diatretum) is one of the greatest achievements of late roman glassmaking (IMO). Their function(s) and method of production remain a point of contention and the few examples in private collections sell for millions of dollars each! I'm not a millionaire or a glassmaker, so I've made a mock-up of my own cage cup, with modifications to overhangs in order to prevent failures. My design was inspired in particular by the Milan cup and the text ('FAVENTIBVS' - With favourable winds) from the Daruvar Cup. Feel free to paint the outer cage with acrylic paint!
