Ancient Flying Machines
pinshape
Upon seeing photographs of ancient golden artifacts that resemble a fusion of jets and animals, I am immediately captivated by the notion of technologically advanced beings (whether gods, aliens or others) soaring through the skies in these magnificent aircraft. 3D printing offers us a unique opportunity to determine whether our ancestors were onto something with these designs or if their imaginations ran wild. Thus far, my attempts at making prints fly have been short-lived, lasting only for a few seconds. However, this is not unexpected given that the originals lack large wing-spans and therefore cannot be expected to operate like some ingenious "glider" designs available on Thingiverse. Their shape bears more resemblance to powerful military jets currently in use. While several enthusiasts have successfully made models of these artifacts fly recently, they achieved this by installing a motor and using radio controls. I must admit that this is beyond my current capabilities, so I leave these designs for fellow makers, hoping one day someone will improve or expand upon them to enable flight. In the meantime, they can be suspended from strings and gently swing in the summer breeze.
