Anakin Skywalker was a highly skilled Force-sensitive male who served the Galactic Republic with distinction as a powerful Jedi Knight before succumbing to the dark side and becoming the infamous Sith Lord Darth Vader. Conceived by the mysterious power of the Force, he was born to Shmi Skywalker and relocated to the harsh desert planet of Tatooine in his early years, where he and his mother were enslaved by the notorious crime lord Gardulla the Hutt before being purchased by a local Toydarian junk dealer named Watto. Exhibiting exceptional engineering talent, Skywalker successfully rebuilt the protocol droid C-3PO from scavenged parts to aid his mother. Soon after, during the crisis on Naboo, he was discovered by Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his trusted apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi, who liberated Anakin from slavery following a thrilling wager on the young boy's exceptional podracing abilities. Recruiting him into the esteemed Jedi Order, Jinn hailed Skywalker as the long-prophesied Chosen One, destined to vanquish the dark forces of the Sith and restore balance to the cosmos.
