One of the finest examples of Olmec art in Guatemala is Monument 11 from Reynosa, Escuintla, standing out as an exceptional piece. The frontal face of the mythical being known as "Olmec dragon" proudly displays itself at the base. At the heart of the relief lies the "bundle with crossed bands," masterfully superimposed over a rhomboid-shaped star. These motifs mirror identical designs found in Olmec sculptures and portable objects unearthed from sites along the Gulf Coast and highland Mexico. Monument 11 can be seen at the Museum of La Democracia, thanks to Héctor Mejía's tireless efforts as always.
