AN NJ Class Diesel Locomotive

thingiverse

The NJ locomotive class consisted of six single-cab diesel locomotives built in 1971 for Commonwealth Railways to operate on the Central Australian Railway. The ownership of these locomotives transferred from Commonwealth Railways to Australian National in 1975, where they were utilized extensively. Following the closure of the Central Australian Railway in 1980, these locomotives were reassigned to the Eyre Peninsula Railway in South Australia for further use. All six were subsequently sold with the sale of Australian National's South Australian operations to the Australian Southern Railroad in 1997 and renumbered as the 1600 class. These locomotives were later transferred to the Australian Railroad Group to operate services in Western Australia, where they played a vital role. With the splitting of the Australian Railroad Group in 2006, two of these units passed to Aurizon and four to Gensee & Wyoming Australia for further service. In 2015, the two Aurizon units were subsequently exported to Durban, South Africa, marking a new chapter.
