Amplfying Ear for iPod MINI 3 in Targus Case
thingiverse
I've updated the files to include a spacer in the design, ensuring that the home button remains unobstructed. The speakers on an iPad Mini 3 are positioned to face either left or right, with a plastic "ear" that directs sound towards the viewer's front, significantly enhancing music and dialogue clarity. Printed on a Prusa I3 Electron using PLA material with a nozzle size of 0.4mm and layer height of 0.3, the extruder was set to 212 degrees Celsius and the bed temperature was at 50 degrees Celsius. The new version includes a stopper that prevents the ear from slipping too far onto the iPad. However, there's an issue with the span of the ear opening lacking support, resulting in some sagging, but this is not a significant concern for practical use. Print Settings: * Printer Brand: RepRap * Printer: RepRap Kossel * Rafts: No * Supports: No * Resolution: 0.3mm * Infill: 100% * Notes: I cut 1mm from the bottom when slicing to save time and avoid unnecessary thickness. Post-Printing: No post-processing is required. How I Designed This: I measured the case's thickness and created a snug-fitting box. After several trial fittings, the third incarnation worked perfectly. The ear fits nicely, but be careful not to push it too far onto the iPad's end, beyond the cutout for the home button. Even if you do, it will still work well. Overview and Background: Assisted Hearing for iPads It works great! Lesson Plan and Activity: How does environment affect our hearing? Sound bouncing off objects colors the sound. What do things really sound like? Materials Needed: Just a printer and some plastic filament. Skills Learned: * Audio * Sound design * Physics * Simple design * Boolean operations Duration of Lesson: 1 hour Preparation: Take a nice drink while printing. Rubric and Assessment: Your choice.
