Ammo Box Organizer Trays

This is not a weapon, rather it is a re-purposing of something associated with weaponry.I find myself setting up dedicated tool and spare-parts boxes for my various pursuits. Military-surplus ammo cases serve nicely in this application -- they are sturdy, they have tightly-closing lids (the lids are removable too), they are waterproof and they are readily available at military-surplus outlets, sporting-goods stores and sometimes even flea markets. But just throwing everything in the box and latching the lid has its drawbacks. These trays provide compartments to keep items from getting all jumbled together inside the box. I designed them in a "full" version which will extends the full length of the box, and 2-, 3- and 4-slot versions. The 4-slot version is for smaller parts such as bolts and nuts and extruder nozzles, the 2-slot version is more for tools such as wrenches and nozzle-cleaning needles. The 3-slot version combines features of the 2-and 4-slot trays. If you want a "full" tray, you will need two of them because a tray that fits the full length of the box will not fit in my printer's envelope. I put two full trays in the bottom of my box for larger items like spare hotends, rolls of extruder tubing and the like. You can glue the two halves together if you like but they work fine if you don't. The walls of the box hold them in place anyway. Other trays will sit on the rims of these so they will not sit directly on the contents in the bottom of the box.The army, of course, has these ammo boxes in a dizzying variety of sizes but the most common are the 30-cal and the 50-cal. The 30-cal box is narrower and I have designed trays for each box. The trays will stack three-deep in their appropriate box for a total of six trays in each box. The 50-cal trays are almost -- but not exactly -- square so if a tray is not fitting in its place, rotate it or its neighbor 90 degrees.Although I intended these for use as a 3-D printer tool/spare-parts box, this idea clearly has application in other areas, such as a tackle box, hobby materials, art/craft supplies and such. Since you are manufacturing the trays for your use, you can set up whatever configuration you need!Happy printing!
