This Steatopygous statuette originates from the Amlash culture of north Iran, dating back to the Late 2nd - Early 1st Millennium BC. Since its discovery, the statuette has changed hands numerous times through private collectors. It first appeared in Marlon Schuster's collection from 1902-1982, then passed on to a Lausanne, Switzerland collector who acquired it in the 1950s-1960s. The statuette remained with this collector until it was sold at Christie's London on December 11th, 1996, as lot number 74. In recent years, it has been showcased for sale at the 2018 Masterpiece Fair in London, carrying a price tag of £400,000.
