Amitābha, also known as Amida or Amitāyus, is a celestial Buddha described in the scriptures of Mahāyāna Buddhism. As the principal Buddha in Pure Land Buddhism, Amitābha takes center stage within East Asian Buddhism. In Vajrayana Buddhism, Amitābha's longevity attribute and magnetizing red fire element are renowned, while his aggregate of discernment, pure perception, and deep awareness of emptiness of phenomena earn him respect. These scriptures reveal that Amitābha possesses infinite merits resulting from good deeds performed over countless past lives as a bodhisattva named Dharmakāra.
