Amerside Law 1
sketchfab
The panel rests within a region of horizontal sandstone bedrock, measuring approximately 4.6 by 2.9 meters in size. Typically, it is concealed beneath layers of rotting wood and larch needles in a densely planted forest area. The panel was last seen before being illustrated and photographed by Stan Beckensall between the years 1970-80. The surrounding environment underwent significant changes when the forest was planted on previously open moorland in 1982. To create an accurate model of the panel, 29 photographs were taken during the Northumberland & Durham Rock Art Project in 2008. These images were used for photogrammetry and are available online through the ERA website. A comparison between the visible motifs and Stan's original illustration from around 1970 reveals a striking similarity.
