American Revolution Star Fort and Tunnels
sketchfab
The American Revolution's only remaining military tunnel is the Kosciuszko mine. Spanning 125 feet in length, this subterranean passage measures between 2.5 to 5 feet in height and was painstakingly excavated by Patriot soldiers from their lines towards the British-held Star Fort at Ninety-Six in South Carolina. Situated beneath the surface soil, the tunnel played a pivotal role as a significant landscape feature during the 1781 siege that is now commemorated within this National Park and National Historic Site. Advanced mapping techniques utilizing GPS, aerial LiDAR methods and terrestrial approaches have enabled us to create detailed above and below ground maps, while our 3D laser scan pointcloud showcases the tunnels and surrounding terrain in vivid detail.
