In 1237, a signal tower stood atop a rocky outcropping, dominating the surroundings. Saint-Hillaire and Vauban transformed the tower into a small bastion fort in 1670. By 1718, some improvements were made: vaulted caves, cisterns, ravelins, and a drawbridge. The perfect diamond-shaped plan was adapted to the terrain with four projecting bastions and inward-sloping flanks. The enclosure was surrounded by a curtain wall with bastions. To the north, the complex was expanded by the "King's Bastion" with a square redoubt similar to those built at Perthus, Port-Vendres, and Prats-de-Mollo. The fort was classified as a historic monument in 1909. Unfortunately, the entire ensemble is not accessible for visits.
