About this model A magnificent sarcophagus showcases fearless Greek soldiers battling the legendary Amazons. Flanking scenes, all connected by a fallen Amazon, perfectly frame the central scene on the long side of the sarcophagus, creating an awe-inspiring composition. The heroic Greek warriors are depicted in proud nudity, draped only with a cloak, and wield powerful hoplite weapons. In contrast, the Amazons employ short swords, axes, and spears while dressed in ornate Persian attire, their mounts adorned with panther-skin caparisons instead of saddles. This stunning sarcophagus may have belonged to Stasikrates, who fought alongside Alexander the Great during the Siege of Tyros in 332 BC.
