Amazon Kindle Fire 7" Stand with Integrated Cable (2015 aka 5th)
thingiverse
Back in 2015, I purchased an Amazon Kindle Fire 7" (also known as the 5th generation) for my grandmother. Unfortunately, we encountered several issues that I attempted to resolve with this stand's design. Here is a list of the problems: 1. The microUSB port orientation was often confusing, causing the tablet to fall flat. 2. The battery frequently ran out, so I placed it on a bookshelf where it couldn't charge, obviously. 3. "Eye-brow cam" video calls were frustrating - if you've experienced them, you know what I mean! 4. My hand would sometimes cover the camera, mic, and/or speaker. 5. The tiny Fire 7 speaker was very low, especially when facing backwards. Although the design is a bit bulky, that's exactly what I needed - something solid and unmissable. The main features of this design are: 1. Ease of grabbing and going, then placing it back on charge. 2. A loop-and-press-fit cable provides a permanent fixture, and with a simple sliding motion, the tablet docks into place. 3. Due to its 45-degree angle, the stand is rigid on the table when typing away and offers decent viewing and camera angles when placed nearby (the 7" screen isn't suitable for older people's arm length). 4. The speaker on the left and mic on the right cutouts redirect sound from the back to the front/side. 5. A large recess allows easy access to the power button. I designed this stand with two parts for ease of portability and printability, probably. Please feel free to remix this design to create a newer iteration, as I believe Amazon has made some changes to their latest models. The design file is included.
