Amazon Fire TV Cube Front Facing Speaker Horn
thingiverse
The sound of Amazon's Fire TV Cube is significantly weaker than any other Alexa-enabled product. I suspect this weakness stems from the fact that the Cube relies on the power of the connected TV and/or AV home theater system for playing music, so they compromised heavily on the built-in speaker. Unlike the full-sounding Dot, the Cube lacks an AUX jack for connecting an external speaker. Even with the volume maxed out, our Cube was difficult to hear due to the down-firing speaker resonating on the wooden shelf. Since we don't require sound from the sides or rear of the unit, I created a horn stand for the Cube using OpenSCAD and the improvement is remarkable. Here's a sample of the difference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmVLnapNwdc I've included the OpenSCAD source in case anyone wants to modify the design to fit their needs. Enjoy!
