Amazigh Pendant
grabcad
The piece of jewelry submitted is meant to be a pendant for a necklace or earrings. The pendant includes a hole so that one can place a string or chain through it. The design is based off of traditional Amazigh jewelry and symbolism. The Amazigh people or Imazighen are an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa since before Arab conquest. One element of Amazigh symbolism in the design is the diamond shape which protects the wearer from the evil eye, a superstitious concept common throughout North Africa and the surrounding regions and cultures. The symbol in the center of the piece is a letter of the tamazight alphabet, commonly used to represent the amazigh people. Tamazight is the language spoken by Imazighen. The letter was styled to look more modern symbolizing that despite Amazigh culture being very old, it still persists into modern times. 3D printing this piece bridges the culture’s 3000 year history with the present by combining ancient designs with elements of modern design and modern technology. It shows the relevancy that the culture still has in the present day and that designs are timeless. It’s aesthetic geometric design can be perfected better with the use of 3D printing technology.
