AM8 Belted extruder (geared)
thingiverse
Human: geared extruder for bowden setup on Anet AM8 or custom printer with 2020 or 2040 extruded aluminum frame. This device was designed to be used with stock extruder feed parts or aftermarket bowden extruder plates. The pulley/gear file included was found here on Thingiverse, but I cannot locate the original creator to thank them and give proper credit. If these belted extruder pulleys are yours, please let me know so I can update this post accordingly. Materials needed: Qty. Description 1 5mm x 60mm screw/bolt 1 5mm x 8mm nut 1 5mm x 8mm Nylok nut/lock nut (jam nut) 2 22x7x8id mm bearing, possibly Z608 or skate bearings 1 extruder feed plate/mounting plate lever system 3 35x3 mm screws/bolts (mounting stepper) A few 188 mm closed loop GT2 timing belts. I made my own using superglue and spare GT2 timing belt; follow online instructions and use a belt jig found here on Thingiverse. CAUTION: Homemade belts tend to break after a few prints. Notes: When assembling, be patient as every hole is designed to snugly fit the part it receives. Push the bearings into place with gentle force, but avoid over-tightening. For nuts inserted into motor mounting holes, use a 10mm screw and position the nut over the hole; then screw the screw in from the other side to manually seat it. This method prevents damage and ensures easy installation. Also, attach the belt to the large pulley first, then shimmy the extruder pulley connected to the stepper motor into the loop. Once the motor is mounted, any remaining slack in the belt should be absorbed. Enjoy! Modify! Share!
