alzheimer's (dementia) bird feeder

alzheimer's (dementia) bird feeder

thingiverse

1 year ago my dad passed away from Alzheimer's disease, but there was one thing he loved doing more than anything - sitting down to watch the birds. So I designed a bird feeder and printed it out for myself, but I also made sure to print out a second one so I could take it to someone with Alzheimer's or bring it to a care home where others can enjoy it. I'm not exactly the next Picasso when it comes to designing and drawing, but my bird feeder is functional and works perfectly. It printed at a layer height of .3 mm and an infill of 20%, which took around 5 hours - but if you want a smoother finish, just print it at a lower layer height. To assemble the bird feeder, simply fill it from the bottom up, then screw on the cap and flip it over quickly. There's also an optional base that can be screwed to the bottom so you can attach it to tables or the floor. If everyone printed out one of these bird feeders and took it to a care home, I'm sure it would bring a smile to someone's face and prove once and for all that 3D printing can be used to do some real good in this world. Thanks!
