Summary: Tolerances are crucial; the smallest clearance for movable parts is 0.25 mm. I'm unsure how to orient an stl file in Fusion 360; if you know, please share. This design builds on my previous frame-mounted spool holder from last year: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1752018 It prints as six pieces: the rod, two spacer endcaps, one bushing, and two actual holder parts. The rod features a print-in-place truss rod that seems strong, possibly thanks to its design. Slots in the rod allow it to fit snugly into the old spool holder rod slots. Prints horizontally with no support. Update: A mechanical engineer reviewed my design, stating that my truss is not actually a truss and serves little purpose. The spacer endcaps have a 0.25 mm tolerance, enabling them to slide into place and remain securely in position due to friction. The A8 should be able to produce a functional part for this spacing. Prints vertically with no support. The "bushing" was designed to minimize material usage while contributing positively to the rod's rigidity. It prints vertically with no support. The holder pieces are designed to center the spool, holding standard 1 kg spools with extra space for free spinning. They can accommodate spools up to 53.5 mm in diameter. Prints without support when standing it on the outer face. Update: Printing is complete; everything worked as expected. I modified the spacer file after printing due to differences in lengths between the two spacers in my Fusion 360 file. If you encounter issues, please let me know.
