I replaced a white steel wheel with an aluminum mag, matching it perfectly. It's noticeably thicker without much flat surface for the lower mount bracket/plate, so I would have had to make significant adjustments to fit it in place. Also, that metal bracket left noticeable marks on the factory wheel and I didn't want it damaging my new wheel, so this flanged plug was my solution to the problem. The wheel bore measured 3.19 inches (81mm), so I made the plug diameter 79mm by 20mm deep with a 5mm flange. The flat spot ensured that the top lug socket wouldn't be blocked by the flange, although I removed a bit more just for good measure. I added a backplate/spacer to eliminate bolt play and a recessed plug to accommodate using the short bolts that came with my Stromberg Carlson TR-1 Universal Rigid Tire Carrier.
