Aluminum Can Planter

An Aluminum Can Planter! I designed this planter in Fusion 360 for the #Hope3D design competition. According to TheWorldCounts.com, we use about 200 billion aluminum cans every year - roughly 6,700 cans per second. That's enough to go around the world in just 17 hours. I was shocked by this statistic because I thought the world's soda and beer consumption wasn't as extreme as it truly is. This design is my idea to turn a negative impact into a positive one. The planter consists of three parts: the top, bottom, and cap. The main goal behind this design was to mimic the shape of a can while allowing for stacking. With that in mind, I made sure the item is printable as possible. This design has drainage holes at the bottom of the top piece so water can flow down to the plants below them when stacked. To make it work, you'll need to poke holes into the bottom of the top can using scissors - easy peasy! The cap model covers the top edge of the topmost can because it can be a bit sharp depending on how you cut it. The bottom piece serves as the stacking mechanism and has three arms that hold the cans high enough for sunlight to hit the plant.
