Tinkering with a hobby CNC is always exciting, and now I'm taking it up a notch by attempting to cut aluminum with it. Who knows, maybe I'll nail it, but even if not, the experience will be worth it. I'm relying on two 6-ohm/25W resistors epoxied to the bottom as my heat source. This setup should provide the necessary spark to get things started. To further optimize performance, a pocket has been carved out in the bottom of the CNC, effectively reducing its thickness to a mere 2mm. With this tweak, both thermal and mechanical inertia will be significantly reduced, allowing for smoother operation.
