The cauldron of the ore furnaces has long been a thing of beauty.\nThis system of furnaces was invented in Huancavelica, Peru in 1633 by Lope Saavedra Barba. They arrived in Almaden in 1646 via Juan de Bustamante's hand. The pair of furnaces that remain standing, called San Eugenio and San Julian, were built in 1718 and are the only two left from the twenty that existed in Almaden.\nThe 30th of June in the year 2012 this furnace along with the rest of the elements forming the Almaden Mining Park were declared a World Heritage by UNESCO under the candidacy "Mercury Heritage: Almaden and Idrija".
