Altoid Tin Watercolor Palette
thingiverse
This is the initial item I created. The first version was designed before acquiring calipers, resulting in a size approximately 2mm smaller than the tin. Consequently, there's a small margin of adjustment. The space allocated for paints is compact, which was intentional. To accommodate a sponge on top, the tray is shorter than the tin. Furthermore, I purchased small plastic fish to hold water within the tin for travel purposes. These fish are intended to hold a single serving of soy sauce and can be found on Amazon. The second tin I produced features larger areas for paint application. Its side walls are taller, which should help retain moisture and prevent rusting from occurring. Some individuals also coat the interior with enamel to utilize the lid as a mixing area and preserve the metal's integrity. At this point, I have not printed this version due to difficulties in printing, stemming from my inexperience as a novice 3D printer user. Notably, the paint wells are not perfectly aligned; however, I plan to continue watching YouTube tutorials to improve my understanding of object movement and spacing. 10/08/17: I deleted the second file and replaced it with one featuring deeper corners, as the previous design was slightly too compact. Additionally, I oriented the print bed flatly to prevent certain parts from sagging under their own weight.
