Alto saxophone mouthpiece and unique lig system
thingiverse
I designed a mouthpiece for an edgy, yet mellow jazz big-band sound with a 1.7mm tip opening and average lay length. It features a unique reed clamping system that allows for rapid mid-concert reed changes. The piece was laser-sintered in stainless steel and sounds exceptional. Surprisingly, the ABS plastic version printed on a Makerbot also performs well. However, it requires cleaning up, especially on the reed table. With some fine sandpaper and patience, the mouthpiece can play like a dream from bottom Bb to altissimo C! I'm currently working on soprano and tenor versions, with plans to share designs for free. If you make this piece and enjoy its performance, feel free to contact me at JohnRicketts@btconnect.com.
