The high oven utilizes iron ore as a raw material containing iron, coke and powdered coal as reducing agents and lime or limestone as melting agents. The main objective of high-temperature iron production is to produce hot metal with consistent quality for the steel-making process in the LD Converter. Typically, the specifications for steel work require hot metal with 0.3-0.7% Si, 0.2-0.4% Mn, and 0.06-0.13% P, and a temperature as high as possible (1480-1520 ° C at pouring). A modern high oven has a chimney diameter of 14-15 meters, and a height of 35 meters with an internal volume of approximately 4500 cubic meters. One of these large ovens can produce up to 10,000 tons of hot metal per day.
