Designing This Model This replica was adapted from an original model constructed from blueprints in the University archives. I spent around 100 hours over two years converting the model from its original form to a version suitable for reliable 3D printing. The model here is as accurate as possible given its current state (as of 2014). I had limited experience with 3D CAD before taking on this project, but I learned a great deal about Sketchup in the process (a key takeaway - avoid using Sketchup for complex models). Hundreds of 3D printed copies of various versions of this model have been produced and distributed to students, staff, faculty, alumni, and donors over the years. It has also been printed on multiple printers, including Makerbot 2, Ultimaker 2, 3D Systems Viper SLA, and EOS Formiga P100.
