Alternative Z Top Rod Holders for RepRap Wilson
thingiverse
I upgraded my Wilson TS with leadscrews that went through the z top holders, which resulted in major issues with alignment and z-wobble. To resolve these problems, I cut out the area around the leadscrew hole on the z top holders to allow them to move freely, and print quality is excellent now. This is a simple OpenSCAD hack - it just cuts a rectangle out from z-top-rodholders-origin.stl (just the Wilson z top rod holders but moved to the origin for easier editing) since there is no OpenSCAD source for this part of the Wilson. The original model and OpenSCAD hack are included in case anyone wants to make further minor adjustments. Print z-holder-mod.stl. Update February 20, 2016: This project is now a work-in-progress - I've prototyped a new z top rod holder forked from the Prusa i3 source, and will be releasing new 8mm and 10mm top rod holders (plus motor mount for 10mm) for the TS once I've printed another iteration and proven they work. Just printing a Wilson II is probably a better idea than using any of these, but I decided to see how a 10mm TS with leadscrews performed before printing a II and rebuilding my upright frame for the sake of experimentation.
