Zaragoza's convent of Saint Augustine once proudly displayed this stunning piece as part of an impressive altarpiece. Crafted in 1551 by Juan de Liceire under commission, its design was first envisioned by renowned artist Damian Forment. This master sculptor had previously mentored Liceire in the art of shaping alabaster, a material frequently used in Aragonese Renaissance sculpture.
