The devastated condition of this altarpiece vividly portrays the intense turmoil that shook 16th century England, where numerous sculptures and images were callously destroyed during the Reformation's fervent sweep. The vacant space on the left once prominently displayed the Adoration of the Kings, now a forgotten memory. On the right, remnants of the Ascension of Christ still linger, unmistakably revealed by the toga and legs that protrude from beneath the arch.
