One of the most revered monuments at Copan, situated in the West Court of the Acropolis at the base of Structure 16's staircase, stands as a testament to the Copan dynasty's legacy. The 16th ruler Yax Pasaj Chan Yopaat is depicted seated on the right, commemorating his ascension to power on July 2, 763 AD, marked by the date 6 Caban 10 Mol. He receives the scepter of office from K'inich Yax K'uk' Mo', the first ruler, and 14 other predecessors, each ruler positioned above their name glyph in chronological order around the monument. This visual representation showcases Yax Pasaj's authority as equal to that of the founding leader.
