myminifactory
This altar showcases a vibrant depiction of Silvanus, patron deity of the forest, surrounded by an array of fruits, pine cones and a sickle. Beneath his feet lies a loyal canine companion, while beside him stands a majestic Scots pine tree - a revered symbol sacred to the god himself. The altar was proudly dedicated by a band of esteemed veterans from the emperor's elite cavalry guard - the equites singulares Augusti - on the joyous occasion of their honorable discharge from duty. Hailing from Rome, this magnificent monument was erected in Via Tasso near Castra Priora, the fortified encampment of the equites singulares Augusti. Inscribed with a clear date of January 4th, 145 AD.
