Altar dedicated to Lares Augusti
myminifactory
This altar slab bears a dedication to the revered Lares Augusti by four low-ranking ministers assigned to the cult of these ancient deities. Worshiped at crossroads and celebrated during festivals like Compitalia, their cult was re-established by Augustus himself. The inscription is framed by an oak wreath above and laurel branches on either side, with sacred fillets hanging from them like ribbons. Around 7 BC, the emperor Augustus reorganized the cult of the Lares by introducing the revered Lares Augusti, also tied to the Genius Caesari, the Emperor's divine spirit.
