This game originated alongside Fox & Geese in Germany as early as 1803, where it's known as either Belagerungsspiel or Festungsspiel, referencing its siege-like gameplay. In English-speaking countries, it was published under Siege or German Tactics titles. Since it shares the same board as Fox & Geese, it often comes with rules for that game and Solitaire included.
