Alquerque is played with 12 black and 12 white pieces, each taking their place on the board in a deliberate pattern. The player placing black pieces positions them on the ten points of the nearest two rows and the two rightmost points on the middle row as they look at it. Opposite them, the other player sets up the white pieces in exactly the same way, leaving only one point without a piece upon it. The game's objective is to capture all your opponent's pieces or create a situation where your opponent is unable to move their pieces.
