The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS), known as Daichi, was a 4-ton Japanese satellite that blasted off into space in 2006. Five years after its launch, the satellite's systems began to fail, and it lost power, bringing all communication with Earth to a sudden halt, yet it remains suspended in orbit, still going strong.
