Almost Universal Phone Car Mount

Almost Universal Phone Car Mount

thingiverse

This car mount design accommodates various phone models and cases using only one 3M screw (supplied with your MakerBot) and a suction cup. The rest of the parts are printed. Optionally, you can use an additional screw for a more secure "Pressure Spinner" and rubber bumpers for taller phones. For optimal stability, ensure correct sizing when printing. This design is almost factory-level quality. The project consists of two SCAD files: 'Generic Cross.scad' and 'Secure Suction Cup.scad'. The latter requires the 'Thread_Library.scad', available at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8793. Customizing for your phone involves editing the 'Generic Cross.scad' file. Measure your phone, input the dimensions into the file (adding 1-2mm for MakerBot or RepRap printers). If your phone is too tall to print, consider using rubber bumpers to provide pressure without encircling the phone completely. Adjust the crook settings for phones with nubs or humps on the back and the length/width hub offsets for phones with central features. Create an STL file for your phone and print both 'Generic Cross.stl' and 'Secure Suction Cup.stl'. Assemble by placing the Pressure Spinner into the Secure Suction Cup unit, sliding the triangle-shaped Cross Connector Arm into its slot, and inserting the suction cup at the bottom. File down any sharp edges before connecting the arms. Finally, push the Cross onto the Cross Connector Arm and screw the long Cross Arm from the front. A small T pin is provided for adjustable tightness on the spinner. While there may be additional steps missing, this should provide a clear guide for assembly.
