Allosaurus fragilis ruled as a ferocious carnivorous theropod from the late Jurassic period, roughly 150 million years ago. These apex predators measured between 25 to 35 feet in length and reigned supreme within their respective ecosystems. Unlike many of their contemporaneous meat-eating counterparts that shared their habitats, Allosaurus fragilis boasted large hands and razor-sharp claws, which they used with deadly precision to attack and kill unsuspecting prey. Furthermore, they possessed short, crest-like horns above their eyes that likely played a crucial role in attracting mates. While the fragilis species was specifically discovered within the Morrison formation of Utah and Colorado, various members of the genus have been unearthed in Portugal and possibly Tanzania. As the dominant force during their time, Allosaurus fragilis is now the most widely distributed and well-represented of all large theropod dinosaurs.
