Human: Remnants of the 17th-century Allensford Blast Furnace are all that remain. By 1683, an iron forge producing iron at Allensford was already in operation. Archaeomagnetic dating revealed that the furnace's final campaign took place around 1740 +/- 10 years ago. This furnace was one of only two in the North East producing iron during the 17th century and a nearby calcining kiln is the earliest surviving example nationally. A 2019 model of the Blast Furnace was produced, but it didn't show the turf cap that had been added later. Photography for this project was undertaken on August 29th, 2019. A model showing the furnace capped with concrete placed in the late 20th century can be seen at https://skfb.ly/6QwSX
