This is an extender for Allen/hex keys and also cloud be used as handle for hex bits. There is a .stl-file included with dimensions that fit the key I have to use for bed-leveling for my 3D-printer.

The following sizes can be adjusted:

inner diameter of the key (consider adding room for shrinkage)

height of the extender

depth of the hole for the bit

thickness of the shell (use a multiple of your nozzle)

diameter of the base

This should not only work for Allen/hex keys. Everything with a hex-shape e.g. hex bits should fit if adjusted to the right size. If you are looking for a hex (or even round) pencil extender you might want to have a look at the dice pencil extender or cap.

Print Settings

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.1

Notes:

You might have to change the inner diameter depending on the material you use. Maybe just print the top for testing first. For extra stability a brim and a lower print speed might help to prevent nocking it off the build plate before the print is done.
If you print different sizes you might consider using different colours to keep them apart.
How I Designed This

Since the longer side of the Allen key I use for bed-leveling for my 3D-printer is a bit short I thought an extender would be great. However it makes no sense to create a model for every size a hex key might come your way. So for me the logic step was to create one customizable model that can be printed in whatever size is needed.

Category: Hand Tools
